Created for Design Weekend São Paulo 2023, Fissura is a site-specific installation developed by Ponto Rima in collaboration with artist Marina Fiuka, occupying a vacant apartment in the Virginia Building during the early stages of its retrofit.
The project emerged from an opening created during the transformation process, exposing what had once been a private bathroom to the adjacent space. This temporary condition became the starting point for a reflection on intimacy and vulnerability.
The installation needed to transform and fill the space while also becoming an object that could exist beyond the event. Inspired by broken glass, the suspended mobiles evoke an intrusion into private space, while their pointed forms suggest an immune response to an invading element. Their dimensions and placement were developed in relation to the architecture of the bathroom, using its proportions and characteristics to shape each object and its movement through the space.
Rather than observing the work from a distance, visitors were invited to move through the installation and experience the tension created by its transformation.
